Michael van Vuuren is a highly skilled and dedicated coach who has played a significant role in honing my skill set as a hooker and improving my performance especially as it relates to lineout throwing.

I have had the privilege of working with Michael as my coach for the past year. From the very beginning, Michael stood out as a coach who possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a genuine passion for the sport and in particular the challenges of playing hooker.

Michael has an unbelievable ability to create a positive and supportive environment, making it easy for me to feel comfortable and confident while pushing myself to new limits. Throughout our training sessions, he consistently demonstrated his ability to analyse my strengths and weaknesses, and tailored his coaching techniques accordingly. This individualized approach has been instrumental in my progression, allowing me to focus on areas that required attention while building upon my existing skills.

One of the many aspects that sets Michael apart as a coach is his exceptional communication skills. He possesses an ability to convey complex concepts with absolute clarity, ensuring that I always understand the techniques being taught. Under his guidance, my confidence has grown, and I have achieved milestones that I once only dreamt of.

We employed Michael at Keresley RFC to the role of head coach for our senior teams.
It became apparent immediately that Michael had not only outstanding coaching knowledge but also ability. He was able to develop a programme that catered for all our players and abilities, thus creating fast flowing, high impact and enjoyable sessions.
Michael also then showed his ability to develop our younger age groups, he was instrumental in allowing our colts team to start training with the seniors (where the session allowed) as well as creating a one club ethos that ran all the way through the club from 7years old upwards.
We were saddened to lose Michael and know that whoever he coaches next and at whatever level will benefit massively.

Once a decision had been made by Esethu and myself to switch him from 8th man to hooker (after his u16 season), I knew the biggest challenge would be lineout throwing.

We were extremely blessed when the experienced pro rugby player Michal van Vuuren signed for the Lions and agreed to assist Esethu in this transition.

Michael is a seasoned pro, and with that comes a wealth of experience. He is also an unbelievable human being and like Esethu he embraced the challenge. His technical understanding of his craft is with out comparison and in a period of one year was instrumental in Esethu being selected as the starting hooker for SA Schools and the SA U18 teams.

Before this season Esethu had not played hooker or thrown into a single lineout! Let that sink in!

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Michael van Vuuren] as a coach who has had a profound impact on my “son’s” journey. His expertise, dedication, and genuine passion has played a pivotal role in Esethu’s growth as an athlete. With Michael's guidance and mentorship, Esethu has developed skills and achieved milestones beyond my expectations.
